Purses have a story too.
The first recorded purse was created back in 1841, due to a man noticing that his wife needed a way to carry several items at once while still looking elegant, though the concept dated even farther.
From the beginning, purses were normally made from cloth or leather. Some early purse designs were reported to have used dog teeth as clasps.
The desire for exotic and unique purses emerged and soon poaching exotic animals emerged to meet that demand.
The convenience…..
It has become very convenient to go online or walk in a store and buy a purse that one fancies. We seldom think to ask where the purse is outsourced from…….who is the manufacture? Would the cashier or store clerk even know? Who do we ask when purchasing online?
We skip that hassle and just purchase the purse.
What are most purses made of?
It really depends. If snake skin , the snake is often nailed to a tree and skinned alive.
If leather, the following animals are on the slaughter list: Cows, calves, sheep, rabbits, minx, birds, lamb, alligators, goats, pigs, kangaroos, and others.
The method in which they die is disturbing and there is nothing peaceful about it.
While most leather will be labeled as ‘biodegradable’, the tanning process actually stops the leather from being able to biodegrade.
What can you do?
There are options out there, like vegan leather can be a wonderful substitute to the mainstream leather or faux leather that we see on the market. Faux leather is made of plastic substances that does NOT decompose.
Consider researching the manufactures you are purchasing from and opting for a purse that does not involve the killing of animals.
